All Year Round

The Sierra Nevada hiking trail takes walkers to the scenic mountain paths of the Alpujarras, with its picturesque white villages and breath taking mountain views. The Sierra Nevada and Alpujarras region in the province of Granada, in Andalusia in Southern Spain, is an area of unique natural beauty, unspoiled landscapes and fascinating Moorish heritage.

The area’s difficult access meant the Moors kept control over the region for more than a century after the fall of the caliph of Granada in 1492. While an important hiking destination, the Alpujarras remains relatively unknown outside the walking community. A truly hidden gem, the Alpujarras and Sierra Nevada region will amaze you: mountain scenery, pretty whitewashed villages, Moorish heritage, local food, as well as its traditional music and flamenco dancing. You will stay in the heart of the Alpujarras and trek the region’s famous white villages, including Trevélez: the highest village in Europe, at 1,480 meters and famous for its delicious air-cured hams.

We’ll organise luggage transfers for the group so you just have to take a light backpack each morning and enjoy the hike. Our Sierra Nevada hiking trail is ideal for groups of 8 or more people and can be combined with a visit to Granada and the Alhambra palace, an absolute must-see.

This UNESCO-listed palace was built in the 13th century by the Moorish emir of Granada over the ruins of a 9th century Roman fortress and has been inspiration to many legends. Our group tours also include airport transfers. This tour is currently available for groups only. Talk to our group tour specialists to tailor this tour.

Today the group will be picked up at the airport by the guide and travel to the hotel in the village of Lanjarón. A meet and greet dinner has been organised for your group tonight.

Pitres to Busquistar

Today the group can choose between two hiking trails:
The short trail takes approximately three hours to complete and connects some of the quaint white washed villages of Taha del Pitres, as walkers make their way from Pitres to Busquistar.
If you opt for the long trail today, the group will hike down to the Trevelez River passing a couple of small villages on the way, before climbing back up to Busquistar. You will be rewarded with fantastic views of Sierra Nevada.

Trevelez to Siete Lagunas

The group has two options for todays hike again, both starting from the village of Trevelez, the highest village in Europe, at 1,480 meters and famous for its delicious air-cured hams.
The shorter hiking trail takes approximately four hours to complete and from the upper village takes a trail towards Siete Lagunas and crossing several river valleys.
The longer trail includes more ascent and a tougher climb but you will be rewarded with dramatic views in the high valley and lakes of Siete Lagunas.

Today the group has two options again.
The shorter hiking trail takes the group on a loop of the Poqueira River, starting from the village of Capileira, the second highest village in Spain at 1435m above sea level.
The longer walk takes in the tracks to Cebadilla and then takes a steep ascent before crossing the Toril River valley and climbing back to the village of Capileira. Its narrow streets are a picturesque maze of white houses adorned with colourful geraniums, and dramatic views of the valley and Sierra Nevada (Snowy Mountain) where the white peaks contrast with the intense blue skies.

Alto del Chorrillo to Mulhacen

At 10am the group will be picked up and transferred to Capileira, where the group will take the National Parks minibus to Alto del Chorrillo to start the walk.
Today’s trail takes 3h to 3h30 to complete and it is a superb hiking trail taking the group to Spain’s highest peak: Mulhacen, at 3450m. Be prepared for the breath taking views as you descend by the Mirador de Trevelez, one of the best viewpoints in the region.

Day trip to Granada

For today, we have organised a trip to the city of Granada and its famous Alhambra palace. The group will be collected from the hotel at 10am, to arrive in Granada for 11.30am and enjoy some free time to explore this magnificent city of fascinating heritage and architecture. A visit to the Alhambra palace can be arranged for the group. Originally built as a fortress in the 9th century, and a royal palace since the Middle Ages, Alhambra is an absolute must-see.

Today, the group has two alternative routes again.
The shorter hiking trail for today starts and ends in the village of Lanjaron; highlights include the Ermita de la Cruz chapel, Tajos Colorado and the Arab Castle, as well as the Lanjaron River.
The longer option is also a looped trail around the Lanjaron River, visiting Casas Forestales de Tello and returning by the spectacular waterway (Acequia Nueva).

Hotels have been carefully selected for their location, comfort, food and hospitality.  Each of the hotels you will be staying at will be 3* or the equivalent depending on availability.
